ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

The White Bluff Chapel is an interdenominational Christian fellowship dedicated to glorifying God while ministering to the White Bluff community, Whitney, Hill County, and beyond.

The chapel building is a place where people come to worship, pray, study, gather, laugh, and learn.  Chapel members then go and share the Gospel message to a world in need.  Ministry regularly takes place in sharing meals, assisting in building projects, participating in mission endeavors – both local and international, meaningful conversations, and a host of other hands-on ministry efforts.  Ministry, both organized and spontaneous, flows freely.  It truly is a ministry from the heart.  With a vision firmly focused on God, our arms are open wide to a community and world we are called to serve.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We are a people who are…

God-Honoring

Revelation 4:9-12 – “…You are worthy our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

We continually stand amazed in the presence of our God and recognize that only through Him do we have breath and the joy of a transformational life through Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Bible-Believing

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

We believe the Bible is God's inspired written Word, given as the only authoritative standard for faith and life. In His Word, God has revealed His redemptive plan and has given us the opportunity to spread the Gospel.  The Scripture serves as our spiritual GPS, giving us direction in our life’s journey

Prayer-Driven

2 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray continually.”

We believe that prayer brings us into the presence of our Holy God.  Though our God is Holy, He has invited us to share in the intimacy of a personal conversation.

Mission-Focused

Matthew 28:18-20 – “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”

We believe God has placed this church in the heart of the White Bluff Community, dedicated to glorifying God while ministering to the White Bluff Community, Whitney, Hill County, and beyond.

People-Loving

Matthew 22:37 – “Jesus replied; ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

We believe that loving God and loving others goes hand-in-hand.  We are a people who love each other and want to continually extend God’s love to our world.

Forward-Looking

Philippians 3:13-14 – “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do; Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

We believe every day is an adventure.  We desire to keep our eyes fixed on God’s purposes for our lives and those around us, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ until He comes again.

Like-Minded

Philippians 2:1-4 – “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.”

We believe in the importance of being united with Christ.  Members of White Bluff Chapel come from different areas of the state and country.  We have different educational and theological backgrounds.  Like the verse above, we desire to be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind!

OUR HISTORY

In the early days of the White Bluff Resort development, a group of families gathered in private homes to study the Bible. Following good attendance at the initial Christmas Eve service on December 24, 1998, steps were taken to organize an interdenominational church with regular Sunday services.

Eleven attended the first regular Sunday service on July 9, 1999. White Bluff Chapel was incorporated as a not-for-profit Christian church on September 7, 1999. Services were conducted in the small Lone Star room at White Bluff Resort's Cascade Pool.

Following a ladies coffee on a Saturday in November 1999, attendance hit a high of 33 the following Sunday. The Chapel outgrew the Lone Star room in 2001, moving to the larger White Bluff Conference Center. Meanwhile, plans were being formulated for our own Chapel building. The first worship service in the Conference Center was held on January 27, 2002 with over 100 in attendance. The future building site was dedicated at a service on February 3, 2002. On Easter Sunday, 2002, there was a standing-room-only crowd of 205 at the Conference Center.

Ground breaking for the new building was held on October 6, 2002. The first service in the new sanctuary was a musical celebration on December 19, 2003, attended by 313 people. The first worship service in the new building was attended by 195 on Sunday, December 21, 2003. The 2003 Christmas Eve service was attended by 271. The dedication service for the current White Bluff Chapel facility was held on Sunday, February 15, 2004.
